CHARACTER SKETCHES

AMBALAL (Age:75) played by Firoz Irani

Scion of a wealthy family, Ambalal is a loving old man. Generous by nature, he owns a jewellery shop and estate nearly worth Rs.80 crores. Married at a young age to Heera who was known for her shrewdness, Ambalal was always dominated by her. Ever since her sudden disappearance from the family, Ambalal turned into an eccentric character. So much so, that he banned selling diamonds in his shop as it reminded him of his wife, Heera.

He believes in BRAHMA VAAKYA (the ultimate truth), and whatever he says should be fulfilled as it is. Ambalal’s blind love & trust towards his elder son, Mansukh, has blinded him to the wrong doings of his children. Mansukh would often take advantage of his father’s hearing problem, to an extent that he would keep bringing defective hearing aids, so that Ambalal never gets to know the truth and remains aloof from the happenings in the family.

MANSUKH (Age:55) played by Ashiesh Roy

Ambalal’s eldest son, Mansukh runs a side business of money lending and is an astute character by nature. He is on the lookout to con everyone he meets, be it his customers, family members or friends. He always keeps his younger brother, Bhallu and his entire family under his control and behaves in a miserly and despicable way with them. He totally loathes his father’s iron fisted control on property & money matters.

However, the only selfless love he has is towards his wife, Rasila. He often shares his dream & desire to inherit his father’s wealth, with his wife. He does not have much regard for either his father or affection towards his two sons, Kaivalya & Baabli and daughter, Gargi. A strong headed character, Mansukh follows his own set of rules & rigid values.

RASILA (Age:50) played by Harshada Khandvilkar

Wife of Mansukh and the elder sister of Sushila, Rasila comes from a joint family background. Her father was a farmer in Anand and they became prosperous by selling milk to Amul Dairy. With her scheming mind, she deliberately arranges to get Sushila married to her younger brother-in–law Bhallu, so that she can keep the reins of control over them and the entire family in her own hands. She has always been jealous of her younger sister because of her positive character, beauty, hard working and her good-nature & the ability to easily find a place in everyone’s heart. A flamboyant character, Rasila inherently enjoys wearing expensive sarees & jewellery and manages getting money out of her otherwise miserly husband.

BHALLU (Age:50) played by Manoj Goel

Younger son of Ambalal and Mansukh’s younger brother, Bhallu is a shy, simple and submissive character. After his mother’s sudden disappearance at a young age of 5 years, he has been extremely attached to his Mansukh and trusts him blindly. Bhallu is coy by nature and scared of ghosts, unwanted guests, troublesome or uncalled for situations in life. However, he strongly believes that no one in this world is bad. He takes every one at their face value and believes ‘koi jhooth thodi bolega?’ Taking care of his father’s jewellery shop, he often ends up making losses in business transactions. Customers dupe and take advantage of his simplicity and timidity.

SUSHILA (Age:48) played by Priti Joshi

Bhallu’s wife and Rasila’s younger sister, Sushila is the mother to Jay and Hetal. A very meek character, Parbha is grateful to Mansukh & Rasila for taking care of her simpleton husband. Very beautiful, Sushila is a good mother, loves her kitchen chores, cooks and loves watching recipes shows on TV. With her strong belief in serving the family, she takes care of everyone in the house, pays special attention and is always caring towards her old father-in-law. Sushila is very superstitious and god fearing. And as a mother, she is constantly worried about the marriage of her daughter, Hetal.

KAIVALYA (Age:30) played by Piyush Ranade

Elder son of Rasila & Mansukh and husband of Jyotika, Kaivalya is a lawyer by profession and has many conflicts with his father. A very mean person by nature, he can go to almost any extent to get his way around with people. A flamboyant and pompous character, he loves branded clothes, accessories etc. and spends a lot on frivolous things. He’s always fighting with his father and his biggest strength is the fact that he lies.

JYOTIKA (Age:28) played by Sheetal Thakkar

Kaivalya’s wife, Jyotika married him believing that he is a very rich man. A former dress designer/model, she couldn’t make much name or money for herself, so decided to retire and marry. A socialite, she likes to visit all parties and also host parties. She is a fake, clairvoyant, can read hands/face, read tarot cards but her predictions hardly ever come true in the manner she prophecies them. She is lazy and cannot do a single household work by herself. An outright gossipmonger, she habitually creates her own grapevine.

BAABLI (Age: 24) played by Srman Jain

Younger son of Rasila & Mansukh, and brother of Kaivalya, Baabli is an HSC failure but dreams to make it big in life. He aspires to be a film star some day. With his filmy attitude and tantrums, he thinks he is on his way to stardom. Since he is not as cunning as his family, he usually ends up goofing up on their plans & strategies. He has all the good looks but no brain. He tries hard to fit himself into the group and pretends to be smart, wants to impress his father but it always backfires.

GARGI (Age:28 years) played by Bijal Batavia

Rasila & Mansukh’s daughter and Gaurang’s wife, Gargi believes that she is the centre of this universe and everything must revolve around her. She likes to demand complete attention of all whenever she is at home, and even goes on to fake an illness to get others sympathy. She is always competing with her bhabhi, Jyotika and can’t stand her. Gargi mostly advises Hetal not to get married, while she tells Jyotika that she is lucky to have a nice mother-in-law like Rasila. She is her father’s pet and just about maintains relations with others in the family.

HETAL (Age:27) played by Shruti Bafna

Bhallu & Sushila’s daughter and Jay’s elder sister, Hetal is a very bright girl with wonderful traits & skills like cooking, managing the house and is also gifted with the ability of designing delicate, intricate jewellery. However, due to her conservative educational background having studied in Gujarati medium, she suffers from a huge inferiority complex. The plain–Jane Hetal is always dressed simply in salwar-kameez , however lives in a parallel universe of TV & films. Though she is desperate to get married, she does not do a thing to stay fit, thin or look beautiful and doesn’t dream of any prince charming. She is ready to settle down with whoever her family suggests.

JAY (Age:25) played by Ashutosh Kulkarni

Bhallu & Sushila’s son and Hetal’s brother. Jay is a handsome, happy and a cheerful character. With his distinctive traits like punctuality, being meticulous in his work, he is very attentive & caring towards others needs too. He plays the tabla and is always devoted towards his Tau, Mansukh, never realizing that it’s Mansukh who intends to ruin all his family’s good fortunes. Jay gets along well with all his cousins but is never given his due. Hard working, yet simple, Jay actually runs the show of the shop but never likes to take the credit. He works long hours and is one of the strongest pillars of the business.

KRISHNA (Age:23)

Elder daughter of Rao Bahadur Ajit Kumar Chaudhari, Krishna is a very intelligent, sharp and headstrong character. Her beauty, talent and worldly-wise traits make her a character of envy with her detractors; however she can deal with almost anyone without being harsh. She has the ability to twist any situations to her benefit & yet never misuse her intelligence. A very noble hearted girl, she makes sacrifice for the people she really loves. She is the Jay’s love interest.

YASHVI (Age:7) played by Rutu Parmar

The only child of Kaivalya & Jyotika, Yashvi is a bright and intelligent kid. Extremely good in mathematical calculations, she helps him at times and earns his love. She loves Hetal, because Hetal pampers her and also Jay & Bhallu because of the wonderful stories she hears from them. She is a younger version of her mom. She also believes in looking prim and proper and is brand conscious too, just like her father. She is very conscious of matching her own outfits with shoes, handbags, etc.

GAURANG (Age:30 years) played by Nitin Jain

Gargi’s husband and the only son-in-law of the Popat family, Gaurang always expects to be treated well whenever he is at his in-laws place. He is very blunt & rude which makes others be on their guard when dealing with him. Gargi & Gaurang stage fights to extort money from the family and con people for their own benefit.
